Whether it’s the school year or the summer, we’re here to help East County kids.
After School Academy (ASA), our signature program, helps young students thrive. With programs in Brentwood and Byron, students attend after-school sessions three days a week at nominal cost. They build their reading skills, improve their social skills, and get help with homework from our dedicated staff and engaged volunteers. Our proven curriculum helps most students gain a full year (or more) of reading skills for each year they participate. Available for kindergarten through 5th graders, ASA runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday throughout the school year. Students are invited to join anytime. SUMMER PROGRAMS
Always available at low or nominal cost, our summer programs empower East County kids with swimming, leadership, and social skills.
Swim Lessons. Swimmers get personal attention thanks to our low student-teacher ratio (no more than 6 kids for each teacher). Customized for all skill levels, our classes comport with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim standards. Lifeguards, instructors, and VCRC staff and volunteers work together to provide students with a safe and fun environment for learning. Lessons take place at Contra Loma Regional Park, with free bus service from VCRC’s Brentwood location made possible by the East Bay Regional Park District. Thanks to our generous donors, there are no costs other than a $10 registration fee. Space is limited and registration is first-come, first-served, beginning in May of each year. Junior Lifeguard Training. Promoting fitness, self-esteem, and teamwork, our Junior Lifeguard Training empowers and challenges strong swimmers. This dynamic program includes an introduction to Water Safety/Rescue, First Aid, and CPR. Each day, participants enjoy a variety of beach and water activities, with a focus on personal safety and awareness of safety for others. Students completing the program receive a commemorative pin recognizing their accomplishment. To participate, students must pass a 25-yard swim test on the first day of the session. Parents with doubts about their child’s ability to pass the test are strongly encouraged to arrange for a pre-test. Contact us to get involved.
Summer Camp. Our annual Summer Camp provides fun, exercise, and outdoor adventures while teaching leadership and healthy living. Contact us to get involved.
