National School Lunch Week Promotion & Free Meal Service
Greetings Brentwood Union School District Families!
We are very excited to announce that the USDA has approved for Brentwood USD to continue to offer free breakfast and free lunch to all children under 18 years of age through June 30th, 2021. Please see the attached updated flyer. Please remember, by participating in picking up meals, you are not taking away from another child. All families are welcome to join every Tuesday and Thursday.
Although meals are free for all children this school year, if you believe your family qualifies for the meal benefit program, please fill out an online or paper application today! The PEBT program for qualifying students may be extended as well other additional benefits you can receive when you qualify for the meal benefit program. (increases school funding, discount to home internet access ect)
This exciting USDA announcement comes during National School Lunch Week (NSLW) which is a celebration to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch for children and the impact it has both inside and outside the classroom. This year’s theme is “Now Playing: School Lunch” which puts a spotlight on our popular menu items while also including a fun movie-theme. This pandemic has proved just how important the National School Lunch Program is for children and families and we are honored to continue to serve you. We hope you can enjoy what we have put together, despite these challenging times, the week of October 12th-16th.
To kick off the celebration, we will be hosting a raffle where we will give away movie-themed gift baskets with a variety of goodies at each of our meal service locations. If you would like to participate, please have your kids do one of the following when picking up meals on Tuesday Oct 13th or Thursday Oct 15th:
● Bring a written note to your favorite lunch heroes thanking them for their hard work or letting them know what you like most about school meals
● Dress up as one of their favorite movie characters (kids can come dressed up to school to pick up the lunch or if parents prefer, they can take a picture of the kids from home and show us at lunch pickup)
We will also be giving away NSLW activity books with fun coloring pages, brain teasers, and a yummy recipe along with other fun treats (while supplies last), so please make sure to come by Tuesday and Thursday at meal pickup time so you and your kids don’t miss out! All schools will be menuing a new Chicken Caesar Wrap this week and Edna Hill will also be piloting a new menu item: black bean empanadas, so if you are interested make sure to come to meal pickup at Edna Hill on Thursday 10/15/2020!
Sincerely,
